David and his brother, Phil, are direct descendants of Charles Dickens, the author. We are in Denver, David’s hometown. We had a wonderful dinner with our niece, Stephanie. We traveled the next day to the town of Longmont. We visited “Dickens’ House,” where we met with the owner, Sue. She owns the farm and land that David and Phil grew up on. She has spent years and countless hours, researching the Dickens’ history. She showed us the family tree and the relationship to the famous author. She has recently, gotten city council approval to name the new town park “Dickens’ Farm Park,” that sits aside her land.
Their great grandfather was born onboard the ship “Johnny Walker,” as his parents migrated to the U.S. from England. His grandfather settled Longmont and the name “Dickens” is etched in marble above, what is now, the Dickens’ Opera House and the Dickens’ tavern.
